By having a personal computer with the WIN95(C) (or successive), it is possible to configure the Abilis CPX, without connecting to the Control Port, using the CONFIG.EXE utility program.
This method is very useful when it is not possible to connect to the Control Port, or when the user wants to configure an Abilis CPX diskette without having the Abilis CPX equipment available.
The CONFIG.EXE utility program is contained in an additional diskette distributed together with the Abilis CPX diskette.
The off-line configuration program interface and the rules that set up the command language are the same usually offered by the Control Port of a working Abilis CPX.
However some command are meaningless and they cannot be used. In the Commands available in the off-line configurator the full list of commands offered by the off-line commands interpreter is reported.
After verifying the operative system WIN95(C) (or successive) is installed, the user must check whether the system can read 1.44 Mbytes formatted disks.
In the case that the personal computer is equipped with only one floppy disk drive, it is neccessary to copy the CONFIG.EXE program to the hard disk and then to insert the Abilis CPX diskette in the floppy drive (let's suppose "A:").
In the case that the personal computer is equipped with two floppy disk drives, it is possible to insert the diskette holding the CONFIG.EXE program in one floppy drive (let's suppose "A:") and to insert the Abilis CPX diskette in the other floppy drive (let's suppose "B:").
A:\> COPY A:CONFIG.EXE C:\<enter> 1 file copyed.

Now it is possible to undergo the commands usually available by the Control Port of a working Abilis CPX.
On the execution line of the CONFIG.EXE program, together with the program name, it is possible to specify one of the following options:
Option | Description |
---|---|
-? | This option make possible to display the program version and the program usage instruction. |
-p (or -P) | This option make possible to specify the DRIVERS.CFG directory path. |
-i (or -I) | This option make possible to specify an input file from which the program will get the commands. |
-o (or -O) | This option make possible to specify an output file on which the program will copy the result of executed commands. |
More then one off-line configurator program options can be used in the same time, with the only exception of the '-?' option.
Here are some examples, useful to understand the above-mentioned options functionalities:
EXAMPLE N.1
The following figure shows the full list of CONFIG.EXE program options, displayed in correspondence of the "CONFIG -?" command execution:
- CONFIG - v. 1013 - 07/03/2002 - For CPX release 1128 - build 1128 - - (c) 1994/2002 - Abilis - Usage: CONFIG [-?] [-pPath] [-iFilename] [-oFilename] Options: -? Program version and usage are displayed. Es.: CONFIG -? -pPath DRIVERS.CFG directory path. Es.: CONFIG -pA: -iFilename Inputs commands from the specified file. Es.: CONFIG -iINPUT.TXT -oFilename Saves output results in the specified file. Es.: CONFIG -oOUTPUT.TXT
EXAMPLE N.2
Thanks to the '-p' option, it is possible to cut short the off-line configurator start up phase entering the DRIVERS.CFG directory path directly on the CONFIG.EXE execution line:
C:\> CONFIG -pA:<enter>
The present example shows the execution result:
- CONFIG - v. 1013 - 07/03/2002 - For CPX release 1128 - build 1128 - - (c) 1994/2002 - Abilis - Logged as SUPERUSER [16:54:29] ABILIS_CPX:
EXAMPLE N.3
Thanks to the '-i' option, it is possible to pass to the off-line configurator the name and full path of a textual file holding a set of commands to be executed. Each command must occupy a single line and must be ended by a new line character. For example:
D R A R PR:0 POI:301 POO:302 CDI:* CDO:* UDI:* UDO:* D R QUIT Y
The present example shows how to instruct the CONFIG.EXE program to execute the previously listed commands, stored in the 'BatchCom.txt' file:
C:\> CONFIG -pA: -iC:\BatchCom.txt<enter>
Here it the execution result:
- CONFIG - v. 1013 - 07/03/2002 - For CPX release 1128 - build 1128 - - (c) 1994/2002 - Abilis - Logged as SUPERUSER [17:29:15] ABILIS_CPX:D R ---+----+----+----+---------------+---------------+------------+-------------- PR |COMP|POI |POO |CDI |CDO |UDI |UDO |NEXT| |CGI |CGO |FFO | |IPSRC |IPDEST ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 0 NO * 0 * * CP * ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [17:29:15] ABILIS_CPX:A R PR:0 POI:301 POO:302 CDI:* CDO:* UDI:* UDO:* COMMAND EXECUTED [17:29:15] ABILIS_CPX:D R ---+----+----+----+---------------+---------------+------------+-------------- PR |COMP|POI |POO |CDI |CDO |UDI |UDO |NEXT| |CGI |CGO |FFO | |IPSRC |IPDEST ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 0 NO 301 302 * * * * ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 NO * 0 * * CP * ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [17:29:15] ABILIS_CPX:QUIT THE CURRENT CONFIGURATION WAS MODIFIED BUT NOT SAVED. PROCEED WITH 'SAVE CONF' COMMAND (N/Y/A)?Y VALIDATION IN PROGRESS ... VALIDATION SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTED SAVE EXECUTED [17:29:21] ABILIS_CPX: Program exits.
EXAMPLE N.4
Thanks to the '-o' option, it is possible to make th off-line configurator to store the result of its execution into a textual file, whose name and full path must be specified on the program execution line:
C:\> CONFIG -pA: -oC:\Output.txt<enter>
After the previous line execution, suppose to enter the "D VER" command to the off-line configurator command line interpreter.
A copy of the program output will be saved in textual format in the specified file:
C:\> TYPE Output.txt<enter> - CONFIG - v. 1013 - 07/03/2002 - For CPX release 1128 - build 1128 - - (c) 1994/2002 - Abilis - Logged as SUPERUSER [17:44:44] ABILIS_CPX:D VER Abilis CPX - Ver. 1128/V/E - 21/03/2002 - Build 1128 - 21/03/2002 CONFIG - v. 1013 - 07/03/2002 (c) 1994/2002 - Abilis CX : v. 1035 - 19/03/2002 CP : v. 1192 - 20/03/2002 COR : v. 1001 - 03/07/2001 CNFG : v. 1158 - 14/03/2002 COMMON : v. 1046 - 13/03/2002 [17:44:46] ABILIS_CPX:exit Program exits.
